Cocktail Menu
Thirst for alcohol is complex. Sub Rosa is here to slack that thirst. We provide a variety of beverage options from a "hard" mango lassie to an early morning/late night caffe corretto.
We only list a few of our mixed drink options here at the moment. What we have on hand varies so much, we won't even attempt to capture it on the web. On a summer day we might have melon juice and the next, a brand new muscat grappa from one of the dozen micro-distillaries here locally in Oregon.
Still, these are a few of our current favorite drinks:
Cocktails:
French Twist - Sub Rosa Tarragon vodka with a touch of Yellow Chartreuse stirred with a twist of lemon. Perfect. If you can't find Yellow Chatreuse, use some Limoncello.
Hard Mango Lassi - Sub Rosa Saffron vodka, mango ice cream and a touch of lime juice, dusted with cardamom powder. An delicious alcohol smoothie.
Golden Orb - Cosmopolitan using Sub Rosa Saffron vodka. Classic lime/triple sec combination with a splash of orange or mango juice.
Monkey Gland Splash of absinthe, orange juice, dash grenadine syrup, and gin. Classic.
Caffe Corretto - ('corrected' coffee) - a small coffee with a splash of grappa. We serve ours as a shot or two of espresso and then wash out the glass with a shot of grappa. Served 24 hours a day. This is one of our most popular drinks. But then, we're problem children and so are our customers.
Distillates:
Eau de vie is the anti-vodka. The point of vodka distillation is to remove all those annoying flavors; the point of eau de vie is to preserve as much of the original fruit as possible. Check out these local distillates.
Clear Creek Pear Eau De Vie - The essence of 30 pounds of Bartlett pears grown on the foothills of
Mount Hood
near
Hood River
,
Oregon
goes into every bottle. Nothing is closer to eating a ripe pear than a glass of this elixir. This is one of the best in the world.
Dolmen Distillery 'Worker Bee' honey distillate - This clear distillate carries delicate floral notes of honey, white flowers and fresh baked bread. On the palate the elixir coats your mouth with subtle layers of honey and a flinty minerality of washed river rock.
Sub Rosa Spirits Tarragon Vodka - This pale green distillate carries a delightful herbal hit of anise that is light and refreshing. Hints of fennel, black pepper and mint dance at the back of the palate.
Sub Rosa Spirits Saffron Vodka - This golden elixir has notes of toasted cumin on the nose, a sweet mid-palate of coriander wrapped in the reverent glow and aromatics of saffron. This infused vodka is as complex as a gin with 8 spices making up a mélange that echoes India and Asia.
Ransom Gewurztraminer Aquavitae - Rich, smooth and complex with the varietal characteristics of Willamette Gewurztraminer. Spicy and flowery aromatics. One ton of fruit yields about 20 cases. In simpler terms, seven bottles of wine distill down to one bottle of aquavitae.
Ransom Muscat Grappa - Made from lightly pressed Early Muscat pomace, this Grappa displays fruity and soft aromatics, and is extremely smooth on the palate. Only the "Heart of the Hearts" (the absolute very best portion of the distillate) from each still run is used for this bottling. Pleasant to sniff and easy to drink, the result is a product which defies the fiery, harsh and hard to drink stereotype of traditional Grappas. Serve straight up as a digestif following meals, mixed with coffee or espresso, or as an accompaniment to cigars or some other herb.
We have other things to drink as well. Hot Chocolate la Oaxaca, tea, coffee, sparkling water along with an occasional sugar cane based Coca Cola brought in from Mexico. At some point we'll list those here but for now, this will suffice. If you want something, just ask. If we don't have it this time, maybe the next time you come in, it'll be there for you.
