Beer List

Our beer list is actually pretty short for us being at the epicenter of the craft beer movement. No apologies though. We serve what we like and hope you like it too.

Beer is a 'fresh' product that is best served on tap within a month of being made - so we try and have the freshest beer possible every time you come in. We always have a few draft guest taps that rotate depending upon the season. We won't list them here. Drop by and see what is on tap this week.

In the bottle list below what we have a lot of are big beers that can stand up to a little aging. Barleywines, Belgium Triple, Old Ales, Imperial IPA and the like. These are sipping beers. Huge in alcohol. Lots of hops.

Hair of the Dog - Fred - Belgian Strong Ale - Oregon
This beer grabs you by the lapels and makes you take notice. Lots of hops with a slightly sweet finish this is balanced yet bold in flavors. Lord, this is one hoppy beer! This is really amazing that the hops actually do more than just balance this beer; hoppy bitterness actually shines through the massive maltiness. We can't forget to mention the fruity characteristic. Peaches, oranges, citrus zest, and figgy apples and pears conclude the fruitiness. 65 IBU 10% ABV.

Hair of the Dog - Fred From The Wood - Oregon
Aged in Bourbon barrels. Head is initially large, creamy, off-white, fully lasting. Body is hazy medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel), moderately hoppy (apricot, orange, flowers, resin), trace yeast, with notes of candy, toffee, sherry, and alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Full body, velvety/creamy texture, soft carbonation. Whoa, baby. 65 IBU 10% ABV.

Hair of the Dog - Adam - Old Ale - Oregon
Deep bright red, high carbonation. Figgy sweet, layer of caramel, hints of husk and yeast and malty, raisiny, oaky aroma. Big creamy body, extremely malty. Overly drinkable barleywines can be a dangerous thing, this beers name is dangerous. Brewed with a blend of six malts, including a touch of peat (smoked) malt, Northern Brewer, Tettnanger hops. 60 IBU. 10.20% ABV.

Hair of the Dog - Eve - Eisbock - Oregon
You may remember that the biblical Eve came out of Adam's rib, and this "Eve" was no different. An version of Adam, "accidentally" frozen one winter making an ice-bock. Eve was an exceedingly strong version of Adam produced by this accident. The pour is very flat, but the nose is absolutely huge. It's rich and sweet in the mouth with a slight tang from the hops and the very high alcohol in the aftertaste. This elixir was never commercially available, but we happen have a case in the back room. 60 IBU. ABV - you have to have a designated driver to even order this one.

Rogue Brewery - Imperial IPA Squared - Oregon
Above and beyond an India Pale Ale-I2PA is radically hopped with an intense aroma and hop bitterness. Unfiltered and aged for 9 months before it leaves the brewery - not for the faint of heart. I2PA is brewed with two-row Pipkin Pale malts, Saaz, Cascade and Northwest Golding hops. 53 IBU. 9.20% ABV.

Rogue Brewery - Old Crustacean - Barleywine - Oregon
A sweet malt smell dominates the nose with lots of fruit and sugars up front and a subtle hint of the 120 IBU's that are to come. A heavy feel in the mouth, as a barleywine should be. Nearly perfect. Old Crustacean is brewed with eight ingredients, Great Western Harrington, Klages, Hugh Baird Carastan and Munich Malts, Chinook and Centennial Hops, free-range coastal water and PacMan yeast. Old Crustacean is best when aged for one year or more. We have a supply of Old Crustacean going back 10 years. 120 IBU. 11.30% ABV

Bridgeport - Old Knucklehead - Barleywine - Oregon
Old Knucklehead is a classic barley wine that uses a combination of specialty malts and four varieties of Willamette Valley hops including Magnums, East Kent Goldings, Cascade and Chinook. The aroma is cherries, plums, roasty malt. Dark ruby red body, very little head, lacing is nothing but a red tint sliding down the sides of the glass. Behind the fruit comes roast and chocolate, drying hops and a dash of alcohol. 60 IBU. 9.10% ABV

Full Sail - Old Boardhead - Barleywine - Oregon
This smooth and fruity barleywine ale is a delicious brew to sip in chilly (or any) weather. Deep and robust, it is brewed using two-row Pale, Dextrin and Crystal malts, combined with flaked barley, to give it a strong malty body. Hopped with Willamette, Styrian, Goldings and Centennial hops, Old Boardhead finishes with a pleasant hoppiness. 91 IBU. 10.60% ABV

Sierra Nevada Brewing - Bigfoot - Barleywine - California
Bigfoot is deep and fruity, extremely rich with an intense palate. With a deep, reddish-brown color, Bigfoot is well balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness. and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness. Piney, resinous and sweet. 85 IBU. 9.60% ABV

Paulaner Salvator - Dopplebock - Germany
The first double bock ever brewed. This beer is the standard by which all other big beers are judged. Salvator is big, hearty, rich and often referred to as "liquid bread". Smoky and sweet malty nose with accents of Hallertau hops. 7.5 % ABV.

Schlenkerla - Rauchbier - Germany
The worlds classic smoked beer. Flavored by kilning the malts over beechwood chips, this beer has a smoky aroma with a dryness the moment it hits the tongue and a full, smoky flavor that lingers in a long finish. Often likened to liquid smoked bacon. 4.8% ABV.

Orval - Trappist Ale - Belgium
Triple fermentation creates one of the most intriguingly complex beers in the world using six different malts, English and German hops. Flavors range from malty & yeasty fruit to incredibly hoppy. Brewed in a Belgian Trappist Monastery founded in 1070 A.D. A very dry herby beer ideal as an aperitif. 6.2% ABV.

Thomas Hardy - Old Ale - England
Scarce, subtle and complex, Thomas Hardy's Ale is the beer enthusiasts equivalent of rare cognac. Bottle-conditioned to mature in the bottle like fine wine, this old ale/barleywine will improve with age for at least 25 years. Not for the faint of palate, especially when young and brash, maturity brings an elegance of flavors unmatched by any other beer. Lightly sharp up front and somewhat vinous, the flavor slowly revealed toasted malt, walnuts and almonds, burnt wood, and a hint of anise. 100+ IBU. 12 % ABV

Young's - Double Chocolate Stout - England
A dark, ruby colored stout, almost black from a distance. A distinctive chocolate flavor with a smooth and velvety finish. Pale ale malt, crystal malt, roasted barley, chocolate malt, special blend of sugars, Fuggles and Goldings hops. Melted chocolate bars are added to the boil and a chocolate essence is added after filtration. Satisfyingly indulgent. 5.2 % ABV.

FYI:IBU means International Bitterness Units, the measure of bitterness in a beer. A Budweiser has about 11 IBU's. The higher the number, the more bitter the beer. The trick is to find a pleasant but aggressive balance between the malt and the hops. Clearly most of the beers above are for hopheads only.

ABV means alcohol by volume. Budweiser, Miller, Coors are all about 5% ABV give or take a few tenths of a percent.
